Sometimes it makes us stop!

Sometimes, a picture makes us stop, a photograph arrests us, a drawing makes us forget what we were just doing. We’ve all had this struck-by-lightning moment with an image.

“Roland Barthes calls this arresting potential in imagery the Punctum.
It’s the sensation that floods over us, stops us in our tracks and, if only for a second, blots out everything else. We feel something new and indescribable, suddenly alone with the image. Punctum is not the sudden understanding of what the image ‘means’. It’s our sudden availability, for whatever reason, for the image to create a new meaning in us, just for us. A one-time flash of something we hadn’t felt or understood before. For that moment of interaction we are free and flying and somewhere altogether new.” (IstockPhoto)

This create a deep significant on the work of hundred designers who spent their time to create something more than just a simple aesthetic effect, visit the website, choose the categories and send your design, probably you’ll be the next winner of the puntum contest.

The One Million Masterpiece

“The One Million Masterpiece is a global arts project. As a community we are creating a piece of artwork that will provide a unique snapshot of modern society through the eyes of one million people scattered across the world. To do this we are asking artists and non-artists alike to complete one small square of a giant digital canvas. The project is supported by the largest online arts communities, is an official world record holder and aims to raise $5 million for charitable causes. ”

Get involved in the greatest art project ever by just filling your small square box with anything you want : you can draw whatever you feel like using a simple software provided by the site itself. You can take part to it for free, or spontaneously decide to pay to get a full subscription and support their cause.

At the end of the project (scheduled for summer 2008) the One Million Masterpiece will be printed and it will measure 80 metres wide by 31 metres high, and shown as a symbol of global unity. A great exhibition will take place in London where 20 lucky contributors will be invited and provided with paid accomodation and travel. In case you’re not one of them, you can always visit it whenever you want to take a look at your piece of art.

Candle Night Summer Solstice 2007

Turn out your lights for two hours on the Summer solstice, June 22nd, eight to ten p.m.
Do something special.

Read a book with your child by candlelight. Enjoy a quiet dinner with a special person. Listen to music under candlelight. Take a bath under candlelight. Have a Candle Night party.

Or simply spend time as usual under candlelight.

It is OK to spend time as usual. Do nothing special. Use computer as usual.

This night can mean many things for many people.
A time to save energy, to think about peace, to think about people in distant lands who share your planet.

Pulling the plug open the window to a new world.
Awakens as to human freedom and diversity.
It is a process, finding a larger possibility of the human civilization.
By turning off lights for only two hours, we will be all loosely connected.

Let’s make a “wave of darkness” spread over the globe together.
On the evening of Summer solstice, June 22nd, for two hours from 8 to 10 p.m.

Turn out your lights, take it slow.
